This book is extremely helpful in prepping for the CBEST. I used it extensively prior to taking the exam and am quite glad that I did, considering the depth of material tested. I hadn't done some of that math in over 15 years. Having said that - I just wanted to forewarn anyone who purchases this edition to be aware that there's actually an answer error in the first practice test. I notified the Princeton Review and they are adjusting the problem. Here is their response:"Thank you for bringing this to our attention! We apologize for the inconvenience and confusion this caused. You're correct-- question #24 should read D. PASSED on the first try!Now that's out of the way, I used this book mainly to refresh on math before the CBEST. The most valuable part about this book actually turned out to be the test-taking strategies. I thought they would be common sense recommendations, but they turned out to be very useful and applicable to the CBEST. For example, I caught myself reviewing the reading section of the CBEST before turning it in and remembered one of the strategies. It recommended to not choose an answer with strong language (Always, never, etc.) and it made me change a few of my answers at the last minute. Turned out to be solid advice because I scored almost 100 points over the passing score (minimum score is 123). I think the practice tests were mostly reflective of the questions you'll find on the actual CBEST, however, the CBEST seemed to have less complicated math questions than this book presented (which is a good thing!). You'll do fine on the CBEST if you give yourself a quick refresher with this book. Good luck!

Passed with very high scores (although it’s simply a pass/fail test). I graduated College in 1996 so it’s been a while since I’ve had to take a test. I wasn’t worried about the reading or writing (I was an English major) but the math freaked me out. I read the reading and writing sections, which seemed pretty straight forward. Knowing the essay formulas was helpful-I didn’t even practice it. The reading section is basically common sense and being careful and I didn’t feel the need to do the practice section at the back for that. As for the math, the book helped tons. It really is basic math so it was just practicing stuff I’d forgotten long ago. For practice I went on khan academy and watched thier videos and did the practice tests until I had it down and then did the two practice tests in the back and the one on the cte website. The math portion ended up being my highest score (did I mention I hate math?). This was an excellent guide to help you know what to expect. As for the test, it really is basic skills and the first round of weeding out the people who just shouldn’t be teaching. Highly recommend this book as a test prep.

This book is the most recent version of the CBEST study guide. It will give you good outline of do's and don't...which are very useful! This study guide alone was enough for me to pass the reading section first time round, which is pretty basic. For the writing section, it will give you ideas of how to structure your topic related essays but you still have to practice writing in a timed limit. In general, writing comes easy to me compared to other topics hence I didn't use that section in the book. Lastly, if you're not good at math than I suggest checking out some basic high mathematics books from your local library as this alone will not help you in passing the math portion. Although, CBEST has only basic pre-algebra, algebra and some geometry math problems- you still need a lot of practice if you haven't done it in a while...so depending where your strength lies, I would say prepare accordingly and don't solely rely on this to pass it in one go. That's unrealistic! I did not think CBEST was hard at all but it covers a lot of material in very little time- if can afford take a few sections separately than you can pass it easily. If you have good test taking skills than you should be good to go!

I'm 51 years old and I stink at math. I studied for about a month and I passed my first time with a strong score! Right in the middle of the pack, no scraping by! Now on to the CSET. I will be getting that next. Couldn't be happier.

After using a different CBEST study book and not passing the test I decided to use this one. The difference was incredible. The questions were practically identical to the ones I had on the test. The tips were incredibly helpful and helped me pass the test. My only minor criticism with the book is that it comes with two tests and one online. I would rather have three tests inside the book. But it helped me pass the test and worked wonders.

I bought this one along with the CliffsNotes version. I should have saved my money on this one. The CliffsNotes version was so helpful - I passed the CBEST, and I felt so confident when taking the test.This Princeton Review book was a lot of talk, but did not offer as many practice tests, which proved to be most helpful.

I can't say enough good things about the book. I passed two sections of the CBEST on the first try, thanks to it. I don't have to retake either section and I now only need to retake one section (that I admittedly didn't spend enough time studying) again in order to have fully passed the CBEST.
