From School Library Journal

Grade 7–10—This book has elements of Lauren Weisberger's The Devil Wears Prada (Doubleday, 2003) and Linda Francis Lee's The Devil in the Junior League (St. Martin's, 2006), but is geared to teens. There is mention of every popular, up-to-date brand name, movie, and store. There is advice on how to identify each clique in high school by fashion alone. The author gives dating advice, fashion advice, and advice on how to handle oneself in public. All of this "advice" is there to support the social climbers' quest to the A-List. Many of Schneider's comments are definitely New York specific, but she does succeed in creating an environment that is recognizable on almost any high school campus. Done in interesting and eye-catching fonts, the book will attract readers, but unless they're really interested in becoming A-Listers, it all becomes a bit much. Schneider does talk about the importance of fashion reflecting who you are—she encourages readers to figure that out independently and not be followers. Though parts of the book are entertaining, it's unlikely that it will be read cover to cover.—Emily Garrett, Armstrong Elementary School, Sachse, TX Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. So I tried to like this book, I really did, but I was disappointed. The author's tone was snotty and "I'm better-than-you" and seems like it will only appeal to what we now call "mean girls" rather than down-to-earth girls. If this is supposed to be funny and tongue-in-check, it's missing the mark. I would recommend that girls stick with American Girls books for guidance or the Teen Vogue Handbook. This book adds little to nothing to the marketplace.

Robyn Schneider's THE SOCIAL CLIMBER'S GUIDE TO HIGH SCHOOL is a fabulous guide to the average high school experience.Truth be told, I expected a vain, stuck-up instruction manual teaching the next generation of high school students to be vain, snobbish girls a' la Mean Girls. I stand corrected. It does have its moments of being slightly snooty, but having recently finished high school myself, I found that it was right on the money.Ms. Schneider gives you hints and tips for a successful high school experience. She covers everything from how to buy fourteen pairs of shoes in a single day (while only spending $240!) to dealing with gossip, classifying cliques, and being smart without being a know-it-all.I learned the rules to dating (including the rules for who picks up the bill!) and learned how to fake a boyfriend. Other lessons learned include how to spot a fake Louis Vuitton, how NOT to fake-and-bake, what to buy at a thrift store vs. a boutique, and how to D.I.Y. my room to make it socially acceptable.I thoroughly enjoyed this guide. It's quite accurate and will be a great companion for any girl entering high school.Reviewed by: Jessica Cave

This book is very sterotypical. Some parts were very right, such as there are no such thing as high school boys who play on the lawn of your high school, but others were so wrong.Getting a nose job was one of the many things you could do to get from B List to A List ! Um, how about, not ! The author frequently put how "special" she is (wow, she can cuss in Korean ! No one really cares !)And making a fake boyfriend ? Thats just asking for trouble. And then she says you shouldnt do mean things, but then she lists a bunch of ways to get back at someone, and how to get a "straphanger" off your back.Trying to get a college boyfriend in HIGH SCHOOL ? Do ANYONE know how many college boys take advantages of younger, HIGH SCHOOl girls ? A LOT.Overalll, I was not satisfied. It had many grammer errors and typos, most of them in bold.

This was a really down-to-earth guide. No sugarcoating, but real testimonies of high school. I recommend this book for any incoming freshman.

Although it's obviously meant humorously, the book is still very funny and more often then not, true.

Right, lets keep teaching teens the importance of being "social climbers" and dressing according to the "clique" that speaks to their inner angst.
