I’m giving it 3 stars because this was labeled as “Christian” and the amount of foul language in this book was closer to Stephen King. Also, as I am not catholic, I don’t believe that Mary is any better than any other person God chooses to use. The characters pray to Mary as if she is a god. “Thou shall have no other gods before me”.

It wasn’t labelled as such, but I knew it was a warning: “To gaze into the heart of Darkness is to feel its horror even when we stand at a distance.”I took the warning to mean I was going to feel something bad even while sitting in my easy chair reading the book, a far distance from what was happening on the book’s pages. The warning didn’t deter me. I’d read other such books and seen horror movies. However, this book was different. By the end of the first chapter, I had not only felt my skin crawl from the horror, I wanted revenge. The author speaks of Darkness and Light so authoritatively that, at times, the line between what’s real and what’s not is blurred. The book is set in 1976 Beavercreek, Ohio, and the main characters are high-school students. All characters came alive as I read. Some events and the descriptions of the town were so realistic, I searched the internet and found everything appeared to be historically correct. From that first chapter on, the author tells the story by alternating between the viewpoints of Darkness and Light--until they clash. There wasn’t a time I wanted to set the book down.

I purchased this book yesterday and cannot put it down. The character development is incredible and the story will draw you in to where you become a part of the cast! I can't flip the pages fast enough and I am only into chapter 8. I will review more when I finish but it's a definite read!!!!

The book touches your heart, mind and faith. I recommend it to anyone troubled by what is happening in the Church today.I'm trying to.acquire the rest of this series.

Very thought provoking and riveting story. Keeps you interested and wanting to read the entire book before you set it down!

One of the best books I have read in a long while. Takes place in the hometown and time I grew up in. Very intense and well written. Looking forward to reading the next one.. I Highly recommend this book.

beginning was difficult read but then had to keep going to find out the meaning of the book! I am from same town as the writer! Would recommend, looking forward to next.

"Turn loose the darkness."I've read other books about the battle between the Light and the Darkness, but this one captured me from the beginning. Set in a small town in Ohio, it is skillfully woven around the lives of several high school students. As you dive deeper into the book, you see the power that one of those students has to call the Light so he can battle the Darkness. The book was so skillfully written, it easily put me into the scenes as a bystander. I was, at times, horrified by the events taking place, but I felt that the Light would ultimately prevail. The author also used the local history, weaving true events into the story line that had me searching the internet for details, only to find them historically accurate.I look forward to reading more books from this author - the battle between the Light and the Darkness will continue, until the Darkness is finally extinguished.
